General Scholarship Information

As we all know, the cost of college is very expensive. These costs can really deter students from pursuing a four-year university degree. This is especially true for students of a minority background who may lack the means to fund their tuition.

It is very important to us to create more opportunities for our youth without having to be burdened by the expense for furthering their education. We hope that Scholars in our program feel supported by their community in every way possible. We want our program to serve as a stepping stone in the career development of our Scholars. Also, we want to continue this program and we pray that God can continue to use our beloved one’s memory and our family as a blessing to someone else through this scholarship.

Each year a $500-$1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one promising high school senior or college freshmen/sophomore to assist with costs in attending the college of their choice.

To be considered for the Scholarship applicants may be attending any public, private school or university in the state of Georgia. Well-rounded high school seniors and college students who demonstrate a significant commitment of volunteer service to our community are encouraged to apply.

Awarding of The Burnadine J. Roberts Memorial Scholarship is contingent on several criteria including acceptance to and enrollment in a four-year university and a complete application.

Additionally, applicants are required to submit an essay demonstrating their passion to create a better world for the black community. Scholarship recipients are expected to use their resources wisely, and uphold a high standard of conduct at all times.

The Burnadine J. Roberts Memorial Scholarship award is an outright grant scholarship. Although recipients are under no obligation to make repayment, it is hoped that once graduated and engaged in a productive career they will help honor the memory of Mrs. Burnadine by giving future students a similar financial opportunity towards their future also.
